The nursery is inspected by OFSTED to ensure that we provide quality care and education.

Our latest inspection was carried out in August 2016 and we were judged as good.

The inspectors key findings were:

The management and staff team demonstrate a strong commitment for continuing to develop and enhance the nursery provision and the already good service provided for children, parents and carer's. Self-evaluation is effectively used to identify their strengths and areas for improvement.

Overall, the quality of teaching is good. The performance management arrangements to supervise and support all staff members are sharply focused on continuing to raise the quality of teaching and to identify further training needs.

Children enjoy themselves and have fun while learning. The transition process is highly effective in preparing children for their move on to school. Children are confident, enthusiastic and highly motivated as they participate in challenging activities that promote their independence and provide them with the life skills they require.

Staff work exceptionally well with parents, the local schools and lead professionals to support children. They share information that helps to ensure that children receive continuity in their care and learning, and additional support when required. Parents comment that they are very happy with the care and teaching offered to their children.

Children behave well and play harmoniously together. They show care and respect for each other and learn to share toys and take turns during their play.

The nursery is divided into 4 main areas:

Curious Caterpillar room
This is our 2-3 room. It is based on the ground floor of Abacus. It provides access to our creative and messy play room, children’s toilets with nappy changing facilities and free flow access to Abacus’s outdoor play area. In the curious caterpillars room we focus on play and exploration, with lots of opportunities for the children to discover new interests and activities. This is also extended by the use of the Funky Monkey room.

Rainbow room
This is our pre-school room. This is where the older children come to play, learn and develop through more focused activities. The room is set up to provide opportunities for children to explore freely with a creative/messy area, role play area, mark making and much more. The Rainbow room provides a more structured routine to underpin the foundation of encouraging school readiness but is also flexible to meet the needs of the individual children.  Outdoor play is built into their routine and they have the use of Funky Monkey room.

Funky monkey room
This is our newly built play room. A fantastic room that can be used for many different activities! All children use this room. Examples of activities/ time in this room include dancing to music, playing parachute games, using our imagination through role play and building with our huge foam building blocks. As well as crawling through the army nets and tunnels and playing with the footballs, the funky monkey room can also be used as a calm quiet area. This room allows us to meet the individual needs of the learning and development of children. Whether it be through focused or quiet, directed or undirected, with time to let of steam play with the children.

The Sensory room
The Sensory Room fosters an atmosphere of relaxation. Relaxation is good for children’s emotional health; it gives them a chance to explore their feelings and to become interested in their environment. This calming environment provides a restful and peaceful experience in today’s busy and sometimes stressful lifestyles.
The Sensory room is particularly useful for children with sight or hearing problems and extremely valuable to children with autism.
